Dyeing Easter Eggs

So yesterday I posted on Facebook and Twitter that I was dyeing Easter eggs. I did these for my nephew's scrapbook page. I followed the resist technique shown on Jennifer McGuire's blog. Using a swirl stamp, versamark, clear embossing powder, Distress Inks, and blending tool with sponges, I was able to "dye" some eggs. It added so much to the page, that I kept it simple, but I had a blast with the eggs.

I also had to "weather" some cardstock to match a photo of my nephew. I used Distress Ink and water to produce this effect.

Father's Day Card

Although I had a bug this weekend and spent most of it in bed, I managed to get a Father's Day card for my darling hubby. The inside says that HAPPY FATHER'S DAY FROM YOUR LITTLE MONSTERS!!

I have been stalking Jennifer Mcquire's blog and am falling in love with Distress Inks all over again. Cindy at has these and can get all the supplies including the blending foam and handles!! I also picked up one of the craft mats after seeing how cool they are. I love Cindy regularly, but when I found out that I could get all this from her and save a bundle on the products and shipping, I was over the moon!

Stay tuned as my obsession with Tim Holtz Distress Inks reach new heights!!

Fun with Deep Blade!!

I am trying to use it or lose it in my scraproom, so I started playing with my supplies. I had purchased a yourstory at Christmas. I used my credit to pick up a TON of stamp refills figuring I would start using them at some point.

I have been looking high and low for the perfect stamp set to use on my titles. Today I pulled out my Cricut Expression, the Deep Blade, and a few sets of the stamp refills. I started with my favorite alphabet Alphalicious.

This is what I came up with. I have them stored in one of the storage cases for Fancy Pants Chipboard that I have used up recently. The letters are fabulous they are 2" high!! I am in love with these letters!! I used 5 sheets of stamp refill. My letters look grey because I like to stain the ones I use so I can see where they are. I stain them with Colorbox Chalk (Charcoal). They are easier to see this way and I can easily find what I am looking for.

After I finished the first experiment, I opened a new pack and started on SCAL and a font similar to Quickutz Yogurt Alphabet. It is my favorite alpha and I tend to buy every color of the chatterbox chipboard when I find the letters at JoAnns. I had seen on a messageboard there was a fun font named Mandingo that was similar to Yogurt, so I gave it a go.

I was seriously disappointed with SCAL when it came to the stamps. This may have also been because I had been touching my mat alot and it had picked up lint and dirt from my fingers. That's one complaint I had about this product... you have to use a BRAND NEW mat. I butchered a few pieces of stamp material by using restickied or older mats. Here are my tips...

1. Use a slower setting, high pressure, and a 4.5 on your blade depth.

2. The bigger the image and less intricate, the better!

3. Use a new mat, a brayer to roll it down, and tape the edges with painter's tape.

4. Make sure that no one is near in case you feel like throwing something.

Although I am satisfied with the results, I am aggravated with the journey. Hopefully you can learn from my mistakes and I can too!! LOL!!! I plan on picking up some new mats and making a go of it again!! I can just imagine a Storybook Alpha!!! How cool would that be??

Cindy has the blades at an unheard of price!!!
